Take a look at these four images.
Here's Jessica looking as sexy as you get in a photoshoot for the film, Sin City.
Here's Jessica as Sue Storm in The Fantastic Four
This is Jessica again in Fantastic four, but as her alter-ego, The Invisible Woman..
Here's a very sexy Jessica Alba in a photoshoot for a woman's magazine.
I hope you agree that these are all good images of a very attractive actress/business woman. Only two, however, are eligible as a sci-fi babe on this site. Why? Let me explain...
When I first started this site, I did quite a bit of research, although I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do. In my research, I came across images that I didn't think met the criteria for my intended site.
Why not?
Well the answer lies in how you define a "sci-fi babe".
I'm not going to answer this question, although I have tried in the past, because I've come to understand that the answer will be different for different people. For some, the beauty is in the eyes, the shape of the mouth and so on. Maybe it's body shape, hair colour, accent or simply costume. You decide what you like, and if we don't agree - so what?
This question is different! This has to do with my very basic definition of what science fiction is and what I will allow myself to include here. During my research, I found many images of characters I didn't consider as science fiction. You can find my answer in the "is Batman Sci-fi?" blog here.
I have devised a hierarchy of sci-fi babes, which I intend, at some point, to use to classify the characters. I'm not sure how I'm going to use this at the moment, but here it is...
Originally, I only intended to include the fourth category. The problem with this is that I would like this work to be viewed (even only slightly) as an historical and cultural account of the female characters of science fiction. As I've said before, I can't include every female character in a sci-fi TV series or film that is marginally attractive. But some of them lack sci-fi credentials, other than appearing in the medium. This often includes female characters prior to the 1960s: subordinates who culturally weren't allowed to blossom. And there are those characters who may not have a lot to say or do, but bring a certain something to the film or TV series. So, you won't find every single female appearing in a science fiction story, but hopefully you'll find most of the truly significant characters.
Here's Jean Rogers playing Dale Arden in the Film serial of Flash Gordon, back in the 1930s. The serial has significant importance in the developing world of science fiction and, although the character spends most of her time screaming, not accurately portraying her literary character, this is really a sign of the times when males had the lead roles, generally. It would be wrong in my view to exclude her. I personally rate her below more modern female characters, but again - that's the time period for you.
Here's an ex-Miss Sweden and holywood bombshell Anita Ekberg in Abbot and Costello go to Mars. What's she got to do with it? Well, she's gorgeous although has no real sci-fi credentials - she's there as a sex object. She has to be included though, because she is certainly a babe; she appears as a Venusian in a science-fiction film.
Sarah Connor in her various guises is a serious sci-fi character - vital to the plot and with some serious characterisation. She is just human, however.
Now here we have someone with superpowers, the ability to change shape and mimic anyone she wants, but in her normal form is a blue, scaly and most definitely sexy form. Most of the superpower/alien characters will appear here and make up my favourite caregory by far.
So returning to the images at the top, here's the criteria. Only the two middle images are allowed. The first is genuinely hot, but the character is not from a science fiction film. The final image is super hot too - but it's Jessica Alba and not a character from a science fiction film or TV series!
So Jessica Alba, whilst hot, is not a sci-fi babe - but the characters she plays certainly are. Remember that a character can be played by different actresses, so I'm not saying that the actress isn't important in making the character attractive - she certainly is, and I'll deal with that issue at a later point! But don't expect to see super-sexy images of the actresses on this site - unless they are in role, of course!
Let's finish with a celebration of Jessica Alba playing Scifi babes...
Here's Jessica in the hit TV series, Dark Angel, as a runaway, genetically-enhanced super soldier.
Here's Jessica as Marissa in Spy Kids 4
This is Jessica again in Fantastic four, but as her alter-ego, The Invisible Woman..
There are plenty of sites out there - too many to link to - just do a search...
Let's be clear about something...this is a site for sexy female characters in the science fiction genre. I've seen so many sites out there that have very sexy images of women, but they won't be appearing here. Why not? Read on...
